Your Support Is Changing Lives

Gill lived on the street in Victoria. After about a year of visiting Mission and Service partner Our Place Society for her meals every day, she approached the outreach workers for help to make meaningful change in her life.

Gill’s ID was stolen when she was sleeping in the park and she had not received any income for months. Your Gifts with Vision provided Gill with bus passes so she could keep her appointments with agencies that would help her get her life back on track.

Our Place Society serves about 4,000 people affected by poverty in downtown Victoria each year. Along with meals, bus passes are the main draw for people who seek help from Our Place. Every bus pass is an opportunity to forge a transformative relationship with someone who needs help.

Today, Gill has income assistance, she is on the waitlist for a transitional housing program, and she was accepted into the NextSteps employment program, which helps people with mental health issues to reenter the workforce.

With reliable transportation, unhoused people in Victoria can go to college or find work, get to appointments, and visit family.
