When refugee children and youth arrive in a strange country, it’s often very difficult for them to feel part of their new community. A new project at Montreal City Mission, Art for Refugee Kids, fosters a sense of belonging and gives them the opportunity to contribute to the community through art. The artist who helps them develop their skills is also a newcomer who has an opportunity to develop professionally through this program. Through their contributions, both kids and instructor begin to feel more a part of Canadian society.
